-
WHAT IS A NET ZERO HOME?A Net Zero home, whether new or renovated, produces as much clean energy as they consume annually.
-
HOW IS A NET ZERO HOME ACHIEVED?A Net Zero home, whether new or renovated, is accomplished with using on-site renewable energy systems and smart technology integrations. Strategic design, increased insulation, high performance windows, and airtightness also contribute to a Net Zero home.
-
WHY LIVE IN A NET ZERO HOME?A Net Zero home is built to higher standards than a conventional home because it has been designed and constructed for optimal energy efficiency and cost. The result is greater comfort and healthier living in a home that is environmentally responsible.
-
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A NET ZERO HOME?Net Zero homes are the ultimate comfortable, healthy, environmentally responsible spaces. A number of benefits are tied to the airtight building envelope, which reduce the cost of utility bills, exposure to allergens and asthma triggering elements, noise pollution, and environmental impact. Net Zero homes allow for maximum comfort, optimal health, and living in alignment with one's values.
-
WHAT DOES NET ZERO READY MEAN?Net Zero Ready is built to all the standards of a Net Zero home without a renewable energy system installed. These homes are up to 80% more energy efficient compared to the typical Canadian home.
-
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NET ZERO AND NET ZERO READY?Renewable energy sources - like solar panels that generate electricity - have an upfront investment that not all prospective homeowners can commit to right away. A Net Zero home includes and integrates the renewable energy system. For a Net Zero Ready home, the home is built to the same standards as Net Zero without a renewable energy system installed. It can be installed at a later date.
-
WHY IS THE BUILDING ENVELOPE SO IMPORTANT TO A NET ZERO HOME?Having an extremely airtight building envelope means that the home does not leak heated or cooled air. This minimizes the impact of moisture penetration into the home's structure, protecting the integrity of the home for years to come.
-
WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A REPUTABLE NET ZERO HOME BUILDER?Canadian Home Builders' Association (CHBA) Qualified Net Zero Builders and Renovators understand how to incorporate these building techniques into a well-built, energy efficient home that is superior in comfort and efficiency. CHBA Net Zero builders are world Home builders that are pursuing additional certifications like Energy Star and/or LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or are registered with the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) indicate authority in energy efficiency and sustainability.

WHAT STEPS ARE INVOLVED IN THE BUILDING PROCESS?1. The first phase is to understand your vision and preferences, including establishing clear expectations concerning the budget, quality standards, and technical elements. 2. The second phase is design, crafting floor plans and exterior models that breathe life in to your customized home. You will be provided a preliminary estimate that acts as a reference point for the remaining stages of the build. 3. Once the design has been approved, the construction phase can begin. In addition to regular updates, you will also have scheduled visits to the site. The goal is to communicate to you a clear understanding of how your home is taking shape. Any questions or concerns can be brought forward to your project manager. 4. Finally, it is time to take possession of your new home and move in!
